New England Schools showed a strong presence at the Fuel Up to Play 60 Student Ambassador Summit in Atlanta Georgia on July 16-19. A total of twenty-two Student Ambassadors and twelve program advisors from Connecticut, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Vermont traveled to the summit. During these four, fun-filled days, students and program advisors competed in cooking and physical activity challenges, made new friends across the country, developed new leadership skills, and gained self-confidence in a supportive environment.
One of the activities was a “Shark Tank” style innovation challenge. This allowed students the opportunity to pitch their school wellness ideas to a panel of judges for a chance to win $1,000 to then implement that idea in their schools.
There was also an *all star* lineup of speakers who addressed and further inspired these dedicated students in their school-wellness efforts. These speakers included Surgeon General Dr. David Satcher, dairy farmers, NFL players, and U.S. Bobsled Olympian Aja Evans.
To top it all off, both students and program advisors received a VIP tour of the new Atlanta Falcons Stadium.
Overall, the week was filled with learning, laughter, shenanigans, occasional exhaustion, random dance parties, and (of course) delicious dairy foods.
