You Heard it from Them: The Coolest Reasons to Become a Student Ambassador

We recently asked our Student Ambassadors here in New England to share some of the coolest things they’ve done as part of the Fuel Up to Play 60 (FUTP 60) program…

But first, what is a Student and State Ambassador?

Student Ambassadors are champions of health and wellness in their school communities. They are also student leaders, organizing activities and events that promote healthy eating and physical activity in their schools. Student Ambassadors can apply to represent their state for the school year and attend the national student leadership summit in Atlanta, Georgia this July.

From traveling to the United States Department of Agriculture in Washington, DC, to visiting Gillette Stadium (home of the New England Patriots), to leading student teams through smoothie blend-off competitions at their schools, our students have done a lot! As part of #NationalYouthDay, we’ve shared their memorable experiences as Ambassadors below. Want to join the team?  Apply to become a State Ambassador by March 9th!

“The coolest thing about being a Rhode Island State Ambassador has to be my role in the school. The 2017 school year was great and this program helped me do things I never did before. It’s fun helping other people and getting to know them more.

“It was fun to help kids be aware of having good nutrition and exercising for at least 60 minutes a day.”

The day I became aware of the program has to be when Jabaal Sheard, favorite safety Patrick Chung, and Markus Kuhn came to Pawtucket, on behalf of the NFL’s Play 60 program, to provide a grant to increase access to physical activity in our community. They also did football drills and skills with us, too!  It’s cool talking to people who you look up to and see on the field cause one day you wanna be on the field. Great experience and I can’t wait go to Gillette Stadium again.” – Rhode Island State Ambassador, Nate

“The coolest thing I’ve been able to do is combine my passion for politics and FUTP 60 and present at the USDA! It was amazing to get to meet people like the then Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack!” – New Hampshire State Ambassador, Prescott

“As a FUTP 60 student ambassador, I think one of my favorite things I’ve done so far was being asked to be in a photo shoot with Devin McCourty, #32 of the New England Patriots. I traveled to Rhode Island from Vermont and we did the shoot in a local school.” – Vermont Student Ambassador, Cat

“I have been able to go to Minnesota and Indiana through Fuel Up to Play 60. Also, I have been able to meet many interesting people, like football players and dairy farmers. Thank you.” New Hampshire Student Ambassador, Ariana

“The coolest thing I have gotten to do as a student ambassador is meet new people. Whether it’s kids my age who become my close friends, or adults who just want to help me succeed, the people I have met over the years are some of the best people I will ever meet.” – New Hampshire Student Ambassador, Jade

“The two coolest things I have gotten to do as a student ambassador were getting a chance to speak at the SHAPE conference in Boston, and go to local and national summits to meet other students from around the country.” –  New Hampshire Student Ambassador, Sydney
